Relegated Blackpool announce the departure of manager Neil McDonald with immediate effect.

Neil McDonald has vacated his role as manager of Blackpool.

The 50-year-old took charge at Bloomfield Road last June on a 12-month contract.

However, with that deal now close to expiring and the team having been relegated to League Two, a parting of ways has been agreed.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Blackpool Football Club, its staff, players and fans for their support throughout what has been a very difficult season," the outgoing boss told the club's official website.

"Despite being extremely disappointed by our relegation from Sky Bet League One, I am pleased with the work we have done over the past 12 months to rebuild the squad and I leave having laid stronger foundations than when I first arrived. There is now a very capable squad with a core of good young players, who I'm certain will continue their development and challenge in League Two next year.

"It has been a hugely challenging role, but one which I am honoured to have held. I wish the club the very best of luck in the future and I hope they bounce straight back to League One."

The Seasiders won 12 league matches under McDonald's guidance.
