Ian Holloway targets extra attackers

Ian Holloway wants to add some attackers to his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has revealed that he is hoping to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

DJ Campbell, Charlie Adam, Marlon Harewood, Luke Varney and Jason Puncheon have left the club since their relegation from the Premier League, leaving Holloway short in the final third of the pitch.

"The biggest worry I've got is goals. We are an attack-minded team and if we don't take some chances that we create, then we'll struggle," the boss told the Blackpool Gazette.

"I've lost an awful lot of pace with DJ and Varney going, and we've lost a bit of trickery with Jason Puncheon, who I thought I could get back and that hasn't happened.

"I thought we had David Goodwillie and it turned out Blackburn stepped in, so that was a disappointment.

"Nile Ranger, another one we bid big money for, didn't even want to come and talk to us. That wasn't even close."

Holloway has been able to secure the services of veteran striker Kevin Phillips from Birmingham City. The former Sunderland centre forward scored two goals during his home debut against Peterborough United on Sunday afternoon.
