Sean Davis targets Bolton comeback

Sean Davis no longer wants to be the "forgotten man" as he targets a return to Bolton's starting lineup after a lengthy injury layoff

Sean Davis has revealed that he is nearing a comeback for Bolton Wanderers following a two-year layoff.

The 32-year-old suffered a knee problem against Liverpool in 2009 and has since failed to make a return to the Wanderers' first team after a number of injury setbacks.

Despite approximately 24 months out of action, Davis is eager to continue working towards a much sought-after call-up from manager Owen Coyle.

"My fitness feels okay," Davis told the club's official website. "The match sharpness will obviously come further down the line. As each game goes by, I feel like I'm gradually making steps towards getting back in that first team.

"When you've been out for as long as I have it's hard. This is something I've worked towards for years now. You spend time in the gym doing rehab work all in hope of getting back out there.

"It's been hard. I'm very much the forgotten man. I keep myself to myself. There's been so many long days of doubting whether you're ever going to play football again. But, you keep working hard and hoping that there's going to be some light at the end of the tunnel."

Bolton take on Newcastle United at the Reebok Stadium on Boxing Day following a crucial victory over Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.
