Bournemouth have plenty of work to do if and when the Premier League resumes, with Eddie Howe's side currently sitting in the relegation zone with nine games of the campaign remaining.

It has been a disappointing season for a team that has rarely seriously flirted with relegation in the last three years, although their final positions of ninth, 12th and 14th in that time do point to a steady decline.

All is not lost by any means, though - they are only in the bottom three on goal difference and, such is the tight nature of that end of the table, one win could lift them as high as 15th.

The Cherries will need their key players to stand up and be counted if they are to avoid the drop, though, which is something that has not necessarily happened throughout the campaign so far.

Here, the Sports Mole team select who they believe has been Bournemouth's player of the season.

Barney Corkhill, Editor: Philip Billing

No single player has really stood out for Bournemouth this term, and all their key attacking men - namely Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Joshua King - have failed to live up to their standards from previous campaigns. When it comes to an all-round contribution for 2019-20, though, it is difficult to look past Philip Billing for me.

The midfielder has made significantly more tackles and won more aerial duels than any of this teammates, while he also ranks in the top three for overall passes, shots, clearances and interceptions, proving that he is having an impact all over the field.

Only three Bournemouth players have made more Premier League appearances than Philip Billing this season, with the 23-year-old featuring on 27 occasions for the Cherries. Callum Wilson certainly deserves a mention in this category, but Billing has been consistently impressive for Eddie Howe's side in the middle of the park.

Operating in a holding midfield position, the former Denmark Under-21 international has shown that he is every inch a Premier League player, and it would not be a surprise if sides bigger than Bournemouth were keeping an eye on his development.

Darren Plant, Senior Reporter: Harry Wilson

With so many of Bournemouth's key players underperforming this season, Philip Billing and Harry Wilson are left as the only realistic candidates. Despite having failed to provide an assist, the latter gets the nod with us.

In total, Wilson has netted seven goals from 19 starts and four substitute appearances, a respectable return for his first season of top-flight football.

Three of those strikes have come in defeats to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, but his contributions against Aston Villa, Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion, all rivals to the Cherries at this particular time, may prove to be the difference when it comes to survival and relegation.

Harry Wilson and Nathan Ake deserve special mentions for decent campaigns, but Aaron Ramsdale has been Bournemouth's most consistent performer in 2019-20 to date.

To highlight his importance to Bournemouth, only Bernd Leno and Martin Dubravka have made more saves than Ramsdale's 102 this season.

It's been a turbulent campaign for Bournemouth, but Aaron Ramsdale has enjoyed a breakthrough season under Eddie Howe and is one of only three goalkeepers to have made over 100 saves this term.

Despite only being 21 years old, Ramsdale has established himself as a formidable presence between the sticks, and Bournemouth would do well to keep hold of him should they suffer relegation at the end of the season.
