Eddie Howe wants to write a new chapter in Bournemouth’s history books by guiding the club to a first cup semi-final.

Howe’s side secured their place in the last eight of the Carabao Cup for the third time in five seasons by scraping past Sky Bet Championship Norwich.

The Cherries, who have never reached the final four of a major cup competition, will discover their quarter-final opponents when the draw is made on Wednesday evening.

After League Cup quarter-final defeats to Liverpool during the 2014-15 campaign and Chelsea last season, Cherries boss Howe is hopeful of progressing at least one stage further.

“That would be really nice for us. I don’t know how many times we’ve made the quarter-finals, the years seem to blur into each other,” he said.

“We’ve made this step and now we want to try and go one more.

“The motivation is huge, the semi-final is a different level.”

Goals from Junior Stanislas and Steve Cook saw the Cherries unconvincingly overcome the Canaries 2-1 on Tuesday after both teams made eight changes at the Vitality Stadium.

The visitors, who briefly levelled through German winger Onel Hernandez, had the majority of possession and more opportunities but fell short in their quest to cause an upset.

Bournemouth return to Premier League action at home to Manchester United on Saturday and Howe is keen to move on from the stuttering performance.

“I think it’s very important we focus on the next challenge which is just around the corner and it’s a big one in Manchester United,” he added.

Defeat for Norwich was only their second from 13 fixtures in all competitions.

The in-form Canaries have climbed to fourth place in the second tier on the back of the fine run of form and are just two points off top spot ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Manager Daniel Farke feels his promotion-chasing team will take plenty of belief from their impressive display on the south coast.

“We know we were there with a brilliant performance and it is also good for the self-confidence,” said the German.

“We are disappointed that we are not among the last eight competitors in this cup because we all got the feeling that we deserved to be in the next round.

“When you are able to come to a really tough ground and dominate a Premier League side, it’s always a sign of quality and you can take this atmosphere and this self-confidence with you in the league and this is what we are trying to do.”
