Bournemouth won't be expanding their 11,700-capacity Goldsands Stadium for their first season in the Premier League.

The Premier League's newest club, Bournemouth, have confirmed that they will not be expanding their stadium for their first season in the top flight.

The Goldsands Stadium, which has a capacity of 11,700, will be the smallest stadium in the Premier League next season after the Cherries won the Championship this term under Eddie Howe.

Expanding the stadium was considered, but as several other improvements need to be made, the club has decided to hold off on increasing the capacity.

"When all of the factors were weighed up, it just wasn't feasible to push ahead with expansion of the stadium," chief executive Neill Blake told the club website.

"There are a vast number of demands for change behind the scenes placed on any club following promotion to the Premier League, and we have to ensure we meet those demands in time for next season.

"It will take a great deal of planning, time and hard work to meet the guidelines within the space of the next few months, and factoring in the expansion of the South Stand as well was virtually impossible."

Blake did add that expansion would be a top priority if Bournemouth stay up next term.
