Brentford's Lewis MacLeod says that he will not rush his return to first-team football after 10 months out with a hamstring injury.

Lewis Macleod has said that he will not rush his recovery from injury.

The 21-year-old has played just 45 minutes of football for Brentford since signing from Rangers in January after suffering from a hamstring injury.

He made his first appearance of the season for the Bees Under-21 squad on Tuesday and scored the winner during their 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

"I have always said that because it has been so long there is no point rushing it," Macleod told the club's official website.

"Now is a good time to come back and I feel a lot better after tonight. I have got the feeling out of my head about whether tonight was going to go well or go badly. I am just looking forward to next week now. I can't wait to get back to full fitness. That might be a couple of games away but I am just happy to get back onto the pitch and get back into it.

"It is much better now that I am back training with the squad and I feel a lot better. The boys have been massively helping me through. We have got a good group of boys. The main thing is that everybody helps you at all times and that is a really good thing about here."

Macleod made 74 appearances for Rangers before signing for Brentford.
