Marinus Dijkhuizen: "Losing quality is always frustrating"

Marinus Dijkhuizen admits to being 'frustrated' by the loss of star names this summer, but says that he will learn to adapt to life as a Championship manager.

Brentford boss Marinus Dijkhuizen has admitted to being left 'frustrated' by the departure of certain key players this summer.

The Bees lost the likes of Stuart Dallas, Moses Odubajo and most notably Andre Gray during the transfer window.

This, combined with a growing list of injury absentees, ensured that Dijkhuizen's first taste of English football got off to a shaky start.

However, following the two-week international break, the Dutchman is keen to focus on the positives so far this term ahead of Saturday's meeting with Leeds United.

"It was a bit too much," he said, according to Get West London, of his first month in charge of the club. "I learned a lot, more than in three or four years in Holland. It was a new country and new culture, and a lot has happened. There's a lot of things in your head, but you just do it.

"I was happy to get home for a few days, it was a good moment. I miss my family, for them it's hard when I'm so busy and tired. Without them it's difficult, but we do it. Now with the squad, it is clear who is in and who is out, which is easier for the players and for me.

"Losing quality is always frustrating, but you have to deal with it. I've had more time to work with them now, and we have had some good sessions. We got off to a poor start, and in every game we have conceded goals, so that's not good. But there have been positives too. At Bristol we got some good goals, and the comeback against Ipswich was good."

Brentford, who hold a game in hand on those around them, are currently 18th in the Championship table.
