Brighton & Hove Albion confirm that new head coach Oscar Garcia signed a three-year contract earlier today.

Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed that new head coach Oscar Garcia signed a three-year contract at the Amex Stadium earlier today.

Garcia was initially appointed on an interim basis at the end of last month, with Brighton forced to delay a permanent deal while previous boss Gus Poyet lodged an appeal over his sacking.

Poyet's appeal was rejected earlier this week, allowing Garcia to put pen to paper on a contract with the Seagulls.

The 40-year-old has pledged to continue Poyet's good work on the South Coast, with the Spaniard relishing the challenge of leading his new side's quest to earn promotion from the Championship.

He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to have signed a long-term contract with the club and I'm now very much looking forward to the challenge ahead. Brighton is one of the most exciting clubs in Europe and the potential here is very good.

"The squad is strong and the footballing set-up is excellent. The aim is to continue the good progress that the club has made in recent seasons. I've already received a very warm welcome from the club's staff, players and supporters.

"Brighton and Hove is a very nice city, the stadium is superb, and a world-class training facility is being built for our use from next season. Pre-season preparations are going well and like the supporters, I'm looking forward to an exciting season."

In addition to Garcia's position, Brighton have confirmed that former full-back Rob Jones will take up the role of assistant head coach.

The Seagulls begin life under Garcia with a trip to Elland Road, opening their Championship campaign against Leeds United on August 3.
