Brighton & Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom puts his faith in Sami Hyypia to turn around the club's fortunes after a stuttering run of form in the Championship.

Brighton & Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom has defended under-fire boss Sami Hyypia, insisting that the Finn will be at the club for "many years to come".

The Seagulls lie just one point above the Championship's drop zone after 17 games of the season and have won just one of their last 13 games.

Despite their stale form, Bloom is confident that former Liverpool defender and Bayer Leverkusen manager is the right man for the job.

"We certainly, on average, should have more points on the board but that happens sometimes," Bloom told The Argus. "We've had a few injuries. Obviously, all clubs have injuries but we've had a few key long-term injuries which hasn't been helpful as well, but we will fight through.

"I have every faith with Sami and [assistant Nathan Jones's] coaching team and the players that we will come through and it will make us stronger.

"I have every faith Sami will come through. He is a very calm manager. I look at the bigger picture. I look at everything and I really believe, as I did in June when I hired him, that Sami's the right man and I fully expect Sami to be here for many years to come."

Hyypia joined the club in the summer on a three-year contract.
