Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion Women and Leicester Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

In their final home game of 2023, Brighton & Hove Albion Women will welcome Leicester Women to Broadfield Stadium for Sunday's Women's Super League contest.

The Seagulls are looking to bounce back from consecutive WSL defeats, while Leicester will attempt to end a six-game winless league run.

Match preview

Melissa Phillips has found it tough going in her first full season as Brighton boss, having seen her side win two, draw one and lose five of their eight league matches this term.

The Seagulls began November with a couple of positive results, drawing 2-2 with Manchester United, before claiming a narrow 1-0 victory against Manchester City.

However, Brighton ultimately ended the month with a couple of disappointing results, losing 3-0 to Arsenal, before being swept aside by Liverpool via a 4-0 scoreline in their final game before the international break.

As a result of those two defeats, the Seagulls will head into the weekend in ninth place with three points separating them from the only relegation spot.

Having drawn one and lost four of their five home league games this season, Brighton will be desperate to claim their first home win before the year is out.

After collecting seven points from their opening four matches, Leicester's form has dropped off dramatically in recent weeks.

The Foxes have lost four of their last five league matches, including their most recent outing against reigning champions Chelsea.

Although Jutta Rantala and Sam Tierney got on the scoresheet, Willie Kirk's side fell to a heavy 5-2 defeat, leaving them in seventh position and four points above bottom-placed Bristol City.

Despite being low on confidence, Leicester can draw inspiration from their recent record against Brighton, having won their last three competitive meetings.

Impressively, the Foxes kept a clean sheet in each of those three matches, and they would certainly welcome another shutout after conceding in each of their last six league games.

Team News

After starting with three centre-backs in Brighton's heavy defeat to Liverpool, Phillips could decide to switch to a back four, with Maria Thorisdottir and Guro Bergsvand operating as the two central defenders.

Lee Geum-min could be presented with a starting role, having settled for substitute appearances in each of the last four league matches.

With five goals to her name in eight WSL appearances, Elisabeth Terland will look to add to her impressive tally on Sunday.

As for the visitors, Hannah Cain is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with Wales.

After dropping to the bench against Chelsea, Missy Goodwin could return to the lineup for Sunday's away clash.

Germany international Lena Petermann will retain her place up front, having started all eight of Leicester's WSL matches this season.

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
Baggaley; Rule, Thorisdottir, Bergsvand, Kullberg; Robinson, Symonds, Losada, Bremer; Lee; Terland

Leicester Women possible starting lineup:
Leitzig; Bott, Howard, Thibaud, Nevin; Tierney, Rantala; Cayman, Whelan, Goodwin; Petermann

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion Women 1-1 Leicester Women

With both teams finding league wins hard to come by, we think that the two closely-matched sides may have to settle for a share of the spoils in Sunday's WSL clash.
