Sports Mole previews Saturday's League Two clash between Barrow and Bromley, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Bromley will be aiming to keep their slim League Two playoff hopes alive when they take on Barrow on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors are currently 12th in the League Two table, five points behind seventh-placed Grimsby Town, while Barrow occupy 14th, boasting 57 points from their 44 matches during an underwhelming campaign.

Match preview

Barrow finished eighth in League Two last season, only missing out on the playoffs by a single point, so it has been a disappointing 2024-25 campaign for the team, who are currently down in 14th spot in the table.

The Bluebirds cannot make the top seven and will also not be relegated this term, so there is nothing substantial for them to play for in the next two gameweeks, but Andy Whing's side will be desperate to finish the season on a positive note.

Barrow have actually only been beaten once in the league since the end of February, and they will bring a five-game unbeaten run into this contest, including successes over MK Dons and Walsall.

Whing's team have drawn their last two in the league against Fleetwood Town and Tranmere Rovers, and they will finish their 2024-25 season with a trip to Colchester United next weekend.

The meeting between Barrow and Bromley earlier this season proved to be the first time that the two teams had ever locked horns throughout their respective histories, and it finished 1-1.

The fact that Bromley can make the playoffs at this stage of the season is quite remarkable, with the Ravens impressing immensely with their overall performance level in their first-ever campaign in the Football League.

Andy Woodman's side have a record of 16 wins, 14 draws and 14 defeats from their 44 league matches this season, with a total of 62 points leaving them in 12th spot in the table, five points behind seventh-placed Grimsby Town.

Bromley would need an awful lot to go in their favour in the next two gameweeks to have a chance of finishing seventh, but it is achievable at this stage of proceedings, with a victory required this weekend for that to remain the case.

The visitors will enter this match off the back of successive wins over Morecambe and Swindon Town, keeping clean sheets in both of those matches, while they have won three of their last four in the fourth tier of English football.

Bromley's away form this season has been impressive, picking up 31 points from 22 matches, but Barrow have been strong at home, claiming 36 points from their 22 matches in front of their own supporters.

Team News

Barrow have not reported any fresh concerns from their goalless draw with Tranmere last time out, so it is possible that head coach Whing will name an unchanged side for this weekend's contest.

Aaron Pressley has scored four times in 19 appearances for the club since his arrival on loan from Stevenage during the January transfer window, and there should again be a spot in the final third for the 23-year-old.

As for Bromley, Michael Cheek has had an excellent season for the club, scoring 23 times in 47 appearances, making him comfortably the team's leading goalscorer for the season.

Cheek will again feature in the final third of the field on Saturday, while there should also be a spot for Nicke Kabamba, who is still waiting for his first goal for the club.

Head coach Woodman may make one change from the side that took to the field for the first whistle against Swindon, with Cameron Congreve potentially coming in for Adam Mayor.

Barrow possible starting lineup:
Stanway; Vassell, Canavan, Cameron; Jackson, Fletcher, Williams, Gotts, Newby; Smith; Pressley

Bromley possible starting lineup:
Smith; Sowunmi, Webster, Odutayo; Imray, Arthurs, Charles, Congreve; Cheek, Whitely, Kabamba

We say: Barrow 1-1 Bromley

Bromley need to win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, but Barrow's home record this season is strong, and we are expecting the hosts to be good enough for at least a point, which would still represent a solid result for Bromley in the grand scheme of things.
