Burton Albion have completed the permanent signing of defender John Brayford from Sheffield United on a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old began his playing career with Burton - then a non-league side - and made 77 appearances in the old Conference before moving on to Crewe Alexandra.
Brayford joined United in 2015 but returned to Nigel Clough's side on loan last season, making 33 Championship appearances and finishing runner-up in the fans' vote for Player of the Season.
"I thought we were building something last year so I'm delighted to be back to help the club keep putting those steps in place and grow even more," Brayford told the Burton website.
"We can carry on building the football club on and off the pitch doing things the right way and progressing.
"I think I am at an age now where I can help other players. I know how the Gaffer has brought me on and got his methods across so hopefully now I can help the younger players as well as showing my enthusiasm and professionalism on the pitch."
Burton began the new Championship season with three straight losses but recorded a win over Birmingham City and a draw with Sheffield Wednesday before the international break.
