Thomas Heurtaux scored the only goal of the game to give Caen all three points against Lorient this evening.
The best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Kandia Traore. However, the striker was unable to head Romain Hamouma's cross on target from six yards out.
Lorient posed more of an attacking threat after the restart and created two chances to take the lead in quick succession. Both opportunities were presented to Yann Jouffre, who was unable to keep his shots on target.
Caen eventually broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Heurtaux reacted quickest inside the area to send the ball into the roof of the net from six yards out.
The away side searched for an equaliser in the closing stages, but they were unable to breach the home side's net.
