Ryan Donaldson: 'Cambridge United over Manchester United hangover'

Ryan Donaldson says that Cambridge United are back on the right track following a poor sequence of results that followed their clash with Manchester United.

Ryan Donaldson has conceded that it took Cambridge United too long to come down from the high of playing Manchester United in the FA Cup.

The League Two outfit held their more illustrious opponents to a 0-0 draw at the Abbey Stadium, before being beaten 3-0 in the replay at Old Trafford.

However, those clashes had a negative impact on Cambridge's league form as they embarked on a run of nine matches without a win, including a 6-2 home defeat at the hands of Portsmouth.

The U's returned to winning ways against Morecambe at the weekend, though, and winger Donaldson believes that his side is now back on track.

"I think Man United was just such a big high with the atmosphere and the build up to those games, and then we've had to come down to earth. We've taken longer than we've wanted to to get back to our bread and butter which is the league," he told the Cambridge Evening News.

"Last weekend [against Portsmouth] was a bit of a watershed moment. That was as low as it gets. We've bounced back with four points and two clean sheets. Everyone is really happy because we're getting back to where we should be playing as a team."

The victory over Morecambe has left Cambridge 16th, eight points above the relegation zone.
