Celtic suffered their first Scottish Premiership defeat in 364 days after they were condemned to a 2-0 defeat away against St Mirren on Sunday afternoon.

The reigning top-flight champions headed into their fixture in Paisley with a perfect record of six league victories from as many matches this season, scoring 25 goals and conceding only once.

Ange Postecoglou made six changes to the side which drew against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday, with defenders Cameron Carter-Vickers and Josip Juranovic not involved in the matchday squad – the former of whom absent due to a minor injury.

Celtic dominated proceedings with 18 shots on goal and 80% possession, but it was St Mirren who were clinical in the final third, scoring with their only two shots on target.

Mark O'Hara opened the scoring for St Mirren with a powerful header from close range on the stroke of half time, before Jonah Ayunga also found the net with his head to double the host's lead eight minutes after the break.

Celtic's impressive 38-game unbeaten run in the Premiership, which dated back to September 19, 2021, has now come to an end at the hands of St Mirren, who have recorded their first home win over the Hoops since 2010.

The Hoops have now failed to win each of their last three matches across all competitions, including their first two Champions League Group F games against Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Despite defeat, Celtic remain at the top of the Premiership table heading into the international break, although their lead at the summit has been reduced to two points following Rangers' 2-1 win at home to Dundee United on Saturday.

St Mirren, meanwhile, have climbed up to third in the standings, level on points with Livingston in fourth and four points behind Rangers in second.

Postecoglou and co will return to league action on October 1 when they welcome Motherwell to Parkhead, while St Mirren will play host to Livingston on the same day. body check tags ::
