Scott Bain: My belief has never wavered since joining Celtic

The 27-year-old goalkeeper moved from Dundee to Hibernian on loan at the start of 2018.

Scott Bain insists his belief has never wavered since joining Celtic a year ago as he looks forward to the Ladbrokes Premiership clash with St Johnstone at Parkhead on Wednesday night.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper moved from Dundee to Hibernian on loan at the start of 2018 but never featured for the Easter Road side before head coach Neil Lennon allowed him to join Celtic on loan on transfer deadline day.

Bain, who signed a four-year-deal last May, remained deputy to Craig Gordon at the start of this season although he played in every Betfred Cup round as the Hoops won the trophy for the third year in a row.

However, having played all three games for Celtic in 2019, and having conceded just one goal in nine games this season, the Scotland cap is enjoying his chance to shine.

He said: "To get a run in the team a year from signing has been great.

"I was at Hibs at this time and I always knew that I'd get the chance somewhere.

"If I had stayed at Hibs it would have been a matter of time until I got the chance there, I would have been able to show my ability.

"Luckily for me, Neil Lennon was great for me, letting me come to Celtic and have this opportunity and it has been great.

"Everyone in that dressing room backs themselves and back their ability so it is no different for me.

"Every time the gaffer put his trust in me to play, I tried to do the best I could.

"I was happy to get the game time whenever I got it. It's been a case of taking it week-by-week and now that I've had a run of games it's been good."

Celtic will go six points ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers at the top of the Premiership table with victory over the Perth men.

Boss Brendan Rodgers said: "This is our game in hand so we want to take advantage at home.

"At this part of the season, to have that six-point gap would be great but we know we have to earn that.

"You see lots of teams taking points off each other this season but we are on course for where we want to be at the end of the season.

"We have the game in hand on Wednesday and, if we get the result there, it gives us a nice little cushion.

"But there's still a long, long way to go so there will be a lot of twists and turns before the end of the season, I'm sure, but all you can do is concentrate on your own game and prepare as thoroughly as you can."
