Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between Celtic and Hibernian, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Celtic, already crowned Scottish Premiership champions, will welcome European-battling Hibernian to Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts lifted the league title with four games to spare, while the visitors are still fighting to secure a third-placed finish and qualification to the Europa League.

Match preview

Celtic have reaffirmed their dominance in Scottish football this season, having already secured the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish League Cup, while also preparing for a Scottish FA Cup final clash against Aberdeen at the end of the month.

The league title victory brings the Bhoys level with Rangers on 55 Scottish top-flight league titles - a record Brendan Rodgers will be determined to surpass in the next campaign.

While the Bhoys will certainly be focusing on next season, with one eye on breaking that record, Celtic must continue their positive momentum in the final league matches as they prepare for the upcoming Scottish Cup final.

Rodgers's side could lift their sixth domestic treble in the last nine seasons, further cementing the manager's remarkable current record of winning 11 out of 12 available trophies during his time at the club.

Their momentum was halted last time out as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Rangers, marking the third successive match in which the Bhoys have failed to overcome their rivals, leaving Celtic aiming to bounce back with a win on Saturday.

Celtic are certain to face a challenging test, though, as Hibernian come into the clash battling for a third-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership, looking to secure Europa League football for next term.

The story of Hibs' 2024-25 season has been truly astonishing, as they began the campaign in miserable form, only to launch a sensational streak that saw them rapidly climb the league standings.

David Gray's side were sitting bottom of the table after 16 matchdays, with just 12 points from two wins, six draws and eight defeats, before a remarkable 17-match unbeaten run propelled them to finish the regular season in third place, having recorded 12 wins and five draws.

That undefeated run matched a near 80-year record, meaning Hibs could create history by avoiding defeat in the opening match of the post-split season, but Gray's men fell at the final hurdle, losing 1-0 to Aberdeen.

The defeat not only dashed their hopes of making history but also saw the Dons draw level on 53 points with Hibs, meaning the final matches of the campaign were crucial in the race for third place.

Hibs could have reverted to old habits after their first league defeat since December, but Gray's side brilliantly bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Dundee United, and a 1-0 defeat for Aberdeen on the same weekend meant Hibs have restored their three-point lead in third place.

Hibernian will be eager to maintain that lead and secure Europa League football for next season, making them determined to earn all three points on Saturday, but they will have to overcome a Celtic side they have not beaten at Celtic Park since January 2010.

Team News

Celtic will continue without the services of Alistair Johnston (hip) and Kasper Schmeichel (shoulder), while Jota is ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn also remains a doubt for the Bhoys due to a knee issue that kept him out of the clash with Rangers, meaning a front three of James Forrest, Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda should start.

As for the rest of the side, Anthony Ralston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor are likely to start, with an unchanged midfield of Reo Hatate, Arne Engels and Callum McGregor also anticipated.

Hibernian will be without Hyeok-Kyu Kwon, as the midfielder is ineligible to face his parent club, while Joe Newell and Thody Elie Youan are also doubts due to injury concerns.

Lewis Miller could return to the starting lineup after making his comeback from injury as a substitute in the 3-1 victory over Dundee Utd, meaning Hibs may field a back five of Miller, Warren O'Hora, Rocky Bushiri Kiranga, Jack Iredale and Jordan Obita.

In attack, Martin Boyle continued his goalscoring form with the opener in the last outing, scoring his fifth goal in the last eight games for club and country, and the forward is likely to partner Mykola Kukharevych and Junior Hoilett.

Celtic possible starting lineup:
Sinisalo; Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor; Engels, McGregor, Hatate; Forrest, Idah, Maeda

Hibernian possible starting lineup:
Smith; O'Hora, Kiranga, Iredale; Miller, Triantis, Levitt, Obita; Boyle, Kukharevych, Hoilett

We say: Celtic 3-1 Hibernian

Hibernian are one of just four teams to defeat Celtic in the league this season, but the hosts are unbeaten at Celtic Park in this fixture since January 2010, and we expect that streak to continue with a victory for the Bhoys.
