Ronny Deila announced his decision to leave his post as Celtic manager at the end of the season on this day in 2016.

The Norwegian guided the Hoops to the league title twice and also enjoyed Scottish League Cup success during his two campaigns at the helm.

Deila's position had come under increased scrutiny after Celtic's Scottish Cup semi-final exit to Old Firm rivals Rangers following a penalty shoot-out.

"There have been some disappointments and times when we have not achieved what we had hoped for and I'm realistic and honest enough to admit that," Deila said after the announcement of his summer departure.

"But I know that the players, myself and my backroom team have always given everything we had to bring success to our supporters."

Deila continued: "It was an absolute privilege to be named manager of Celtic, such a wonderful football club, and I have enjoyed my time here immensely.

"I will never forget the welcome I received almost two years ago at Celtic Park from so many fans.

"When I joined Celtic I knew I was coming to one of the world's great football clubs."

Deila went on to guide the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership title, which was the club's fifth straight league triumph.

Former Swansea and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers replaced the Norwegian in the Celtic hot seat, taking over during late May 2016.
