Celtic boss Neil Lennon doubts whether Steven Fletcher would be available for the £6m figure being quoted in the British media.
Reports have linked the Scottish champions with a swoop for the Sunderland striker, who has scored 14 goals in 39 Premier League games since joining the Black Cats from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2012.
Although Lennon did not deny his interest in the 26-year-old Scotland international, he does not believe that £6m is an accurate reflection of his true value.
"People are quoting £6m, but he was bought for £12m," the Northern Irishman told reporters.
"I know transfer fees change over the years but he is a youngish player still so I would imagine it might not be £6m we are talking about.
"He is a player that I think most teams in Britain would like but affordability might be a problem for us though. Could we afford to spend £6m for one player? Yes, we could."
Fletcher has only returned three goals from 16 appearances this season.
