Alex McLeish has drafted four players into his Scotland squad for the upcoming Nations League double-header against Albania and Israel.
Defender David Bates, 22, who moved to Hamburg from Rangers in the summer, has been called up to the senior set-up for the first time following the withdrawal of Blackburn Rovers’ Charlie Mulgrew and Kilmarnock full-back Stephen O’Donnell through respective rib and hamstring injuries.
Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack and Manchester United playmaker Scott McTominay have also been called up after Fulham’s Kevin McDonald withdrew with a hamstring problem.
Goalkeeper Scott Bain replaces Celtic team-mate Craig Gordon, who joined the list of withdrawals after missing the Hoops’ goalless Ladbrokes Premiership draw at Livingston on Sunday with a knee and hip injury sustained in Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League win over RB Leipzig.
Bain, 26, won his first Scotland cap in the summer friendly with Mexico in the Estadio Azteca.
Third-choice goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin had already dropped out of the squad after being allowed to play in Sunderland’s Sky Bet League One clash with Wycombe. Kilmarnock’s Jamie MacDonald replaced him.
Scotland visit Albania on November 17 and host Israel at Hampden Park three days later.
