Steven Gerrard frustrated with mounting injury list

Steven Gerrard believes that England's mounting injury list is a "huge blow" to the Three Lions as they prepare to begin their Euro 2012 campaign.

England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes that Gary Cahill's omission from the Three Lions squad is a "massive blow" to the national side ahead of their Euro 2012 campaign.

The Chelsea defender became the latest casualty to be sent home from the England team due to a fractured jaw picked up during the Three Lions' 1-0 win over Belgium on Saturday.

Roy Hodgson is now without Cahill, Gareth Barry, Frank Lampard and third-choice goalkeeper John Ruddy for the elite competition, which kicks off this Friday.

"Losing Gary is a massive blow," said Gerrard. "His performances in the last six months have been colossal for Chelsea. He was a colossus in the Champions League final win over Bayern Munich. We needed him.

"I am angry because we have lost some big players with a tournament eight or nine days away. That's the blow and that's the price you pay for these warm-up games.

"To do well in these tournaments you have to have your big players and to lose Gary is another huge blow on the back of Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry."

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly has been called into the side as a replacement for Cahill, which sparked outrage from Rio Ferdinand's camp as the Manchester United centre-back received a second snub from manager Roy Hodgson.
