Sports Mole picks the bones out of Chelsea's humiliation by Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup this evening.

Europa League champions Atletico Madrid dismantled Champions League winners Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup this evening.

Radamel Falcao was the chief architect of the win, netting a clinical first-half hat-trick before centre-back Miranda added a fourth.

Chelsea did get a goal back through Gary Cahill but the Blues were outclassed on the night.

Here, Sports Mole scrutinises a tough night in Monaco for Roberto Di Matteo's men.

Was the result fair?

Oh yes, it was a real classy performance from Madrid's second team. Falc-wow will write the headlines tomorrow (see what I did there) but he had plenty of support from the likes of Arda Turan, Adrian Lopez and Koke. Although the possession was pretty even between the two sides, Atletico had so many more chances and hit the woodwork three times as well as the four goals.

Chelsea's performance

Nowhere near as good as their league form. The Blues are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League but were embarrassed by a side that finished 44 points behind Real Madrid last season. John Terry was missed in the heart of defence as Cahill and especially David Luiz were given a right going over by Falcao et al. Up front, Fernando Torres did very little against his former club, with Eden Hazard and Juan Mata failing to spark anything.

Atletico's performance

Impressive. The Spanish outfit wanted it so much more than Chelsea and looked so threatening going forward, especially when counter-attacking. Falcao is one of the world's best frontmen and regularly delivers on the big stage and didn't disappoint tonight. The 26-year-old's finishes for the three goals were sublime and the best thing is that they all came from his weaker, yes weaker, left foot.

Sports Mole's man of the match

David Luiz. Only joking, there's only one winner here - Radamel Falcao. The Colombian works extremely hard for his team and has the decisiveness in front of goal to set him apart from the rest. His buyout clause is reportedly around the £50m mark and surely he's worth that?

Biggest gaffe

When Arda cut the ball back to Adrian midway through the first half the forward had to simply tap into an empty net but he completely miscued and the ball spun up for Falcao, who for once missed his cue by heading against the post.

Referee's performance

Damir Skomina's performance with the whistle wasn't brilliant but in the grand scheme of things it didn't matter too much. The Slovenian missed a couple of decisions over the 90 minutes and perhaps missing a trip on Eden Hazard near the edge of the area was the worst of the lot.

What next?

Chelsea: The Blues now have two weeks off because of next week's international matches. When they return to Premier League action they'll be up against fellow West Londoners Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

Atletico: Next up for the Super Cup winners is a La Liga trip to Real Betis on Monday.
