Tammy Abraham: 'I want to carry on playing for England'

England Under-21 striker Tammy Abraham rejects reports suggesting that he wants to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria.

Tammy Abraham has poured cold water on suggestions that he could switch international allegiance to Nigeria by confirming that he wishes to keep playing for England.

The Chelsea striker, currently on loan at Swansea City, has played for the Three Lions at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level.

Born in London, Abraham is still permitted to switch allegiances as he has not yet played for the senior side, and qualifies for the Super Eagles through his father, who is Nigerian.

Earlier in September, Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick admitted that he was hoping to convince Abraham to change his allegiance.

However, the 19-year-old announced in a statement published on Sky Sports News: "Contrary to reports in the media today I would like to clarify that I have not agreed to switch my national team allegiance.

"I can confirm I met the President of the NFF after our last game against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday given he is a friend of my father.

"However, any suggestion that I have made a decision to change my international representation is incorrect and wide of the mark. I have informed the FA that I remain available for selection for England."

Nigeria boast the likes of Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Sone Aluko, Shola Ameobi and Ola Aina in their ranks, all of whom played for England at youth level.
