Todd Boehly: 'Thomas Tuchel didn't share our vision at Chelsea'

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly says that he sacked head coach Thomas Tuchel because they did not 'share the same vision'.

Co-owner Todd Boehly has revealed that he sacked Thomas Tuchel because he was not convinced that the club's hierarchy shared the same vision as the head coach.

Last Wednesday, the Blues took the football world by surprise by announcing that they had parted company with Tuchel.

The decision came a day after Chelsea had succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, but it has since been widely claimed that the result was not the main factor behind the departure.

Instead, it has been suggested that Boehly made the call to sack Tuchel earlier in the summer and was waiting for a time which he deemed suitable to make the change.

Tuchel left Chelsea after managing 100 matches, winning 60 times and collecting the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup trophies.

Nevertheless, the American has now moved to justify his decision while speaking at the SALT Conference in the United States.

Boehly said: "Our goal is to bring a team together that with the academy, first team, with the clubs we want to acquire and develop, all of that needs to be a well-oiled machine and the reality of our decision was that we just weren't sure that Thomas felt the same way we thought.

"No one is right or wrong, we just didn't have a shared vision for the future and it wasn't about Zagreb, it's really about the shared vision for what we wanted for Chelsea FC to look like.

"It wasn't a decision that was made about a single win or loss, it was made about what we thought was the right vision for the club."

Boehly and his consortium wasted no time in securing a replacement with Graham Potter in the Chelsea hotseat within 30 hours of Tuchel's exit.

However, Potter faces a quiet start to his stint in West London with last weekend's derby with Fulham having already been postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The game with Liverpool, scheduled for Sunday, has also been cancelled due to London police needing to be deployed elsewhere in the city.

Potter's first fixture - and only game in September - takes place on Wednesday evening with Chelsea playing Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League. body check tags ::
