Chelsea have confirmed that Petr Cech will be out of action for up to 10 weeks after undergoing surgery on his shoulder.
Cech dislocated his shoulder in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid last month, and was immediately ruled out for the season by Jose Mourinho.
However, he soon returned to training with the first-team squad, but remained on the sidelines following their European exit.
It has now been confirmed that the 31-year-old underwent successful surgery to repair the damage which remained, and he will not return for "eight to 10 weeks", which means that he could miss the start of pre-season.
Cech is expected to face competition for his place in the team if, as expected, Thibaut Courtois returns to the club following his loan spell with Atletico.
