Chelsea have reportedly approached Gianfranco Zola over joining the Blues as a member of the club's backroom staff for next season.
The former Chelsea striker is thought to be a consideration for the London side, but it is believed that Zola is more interested in making a return to management, according to Goal.com.
The former West Ham United boss has reportedly spoken to Lazio president Claudio Lotito over becoming the new permanent coach, which suggests that the 45-year-old is unwilling to make a comeback at Stamford Bridge.
The full-time position with the former English champions remains unclear as Pep Guardiola, Laurent Blanc and Jose Mourinho remain as potential candidates.
Current interim boss Roberto Di Matteo also has an outside chance of succeeding Andre Villas-Boas on a permanent basis.
