Forme two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has publicly declared an interest in buying Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.

The Russian oligarch initially announced that he was handing over his "stewardship and care" of the Blues to the club's trustees amid fears of sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Abramovich was not believed to have been interested in selling, but the 55-year-old confirmed on Wednesday that he was welcoming bids for the European champions in a shock turn of events.

MMA fighter McGregor reacted to the news with a screenshot of a WhatsApp message with an unknown person in which he said: "Chelsea for sale £3bn. Let's buy it."

The 33-year-old shared the exchange on Twitter with the caption "I wish to explore this. @ChelseaFC" as Abramovich prepares to relinquish control of the club.

Chelsea - who saw off Luton Town 3-2 in the FA Cup in the wake of the news - have won 21 trophies during Abramovich's 19-year spell in West London, including five Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns. body check tags ::
