Antonio Conte: 'Chelsea won't appeal David Luiz red card'

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte reiterates that he does not feel David Luiz should have been shown a red card against Arsenal, but he will reluctantly accept the decision.

Antonio Conte has confirmed that Chelsea do not intend to appeal against the red card awarded to defender David Luiz during the goalless draw with Arsenal.

The Brazil international was dismissed late on at Stamford Bridge by referee Michael Oliver for a studs-up challenge on opposition wing-back Sead Kolasinac.

Conte was initially unhappy with the decision when speaking after the game, claiming that Alexis Sanchez should have been penalised for a challenge prior to the incident, but he reluctantly accepts the call and is happy to move on.

Asked if an appeal would be likely, he told reporters: "No, I think the situation was very clear. It was a fall before the tackle but now it's important to move on and to look at the next game."

Luiz, likely to be replaced by youngster Andreas Christensen in the starting lineup, will now sit out league games against Stoke City and Manchester City, as well as the EFL Cup tie with Nottingham Forest.
