Dalglish: 'Torres has nothing to do with us'

Kenny Dalglish thinks that his Liverpool team needs to have "belief" that they can get a result at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Sunday.

Kenny Dalglish has insisted that the departures of Fernando Torres and Raul Meireles will not motivate Liverpool to beat Chelsea.

The Spain international came under criticism from Reds fans after he put in a transfer request in order to complete a last-minute £50m move to Stamford Bridge in January.

Portugal midfielder Meireles left Merseyside in the same vein in the summer by making the switch to the Blues on the final day of the transfer window.

Liverpool snatched a win from the former Premier League champions in London last season, and Dalglish is hoping to emulate the result.

"I don't think you ever need an excuse to take three points - it's always a pleasure to take three points," said Dalglish.

"How they do it and how the individual sets themselves up to do it is up to themselves. We'll go there and try our best to repeat last season's result. [Torres's form] is nothing to do with us."

The Reds are unbeaten in their previous eight matches in all competitions but have dropped points after four draws in their last league fixtures.

Despite failing to hit the back of the net on a number of occasions, Dalglish thinks that confidence amongst his players is vital.

"There is a difference between confidence and arrogance, but I think the players should have belief in themselves," he added.

The Premier League clash between Chelsea and Liverpool will take place on the Blues' home turf on Sunday afternoon.
