Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that he only spoke to Jose Mourinho twice while at Chelsea.
The 26-year-old joined the Blues in 2012 when Roberto Di Matteo was in charge, but was immediately shipped out on loan to Werder Bremen.
De Bruyne only managed to accrue nine appearances under the now-Manchester United boss before he was sold to Wolfsburg in January for £18m.
When asked to describe his relationship with Mourinho, the Belgian is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "I would say distant. I'm not really someone who speaks a lot with coaches.
"I think if a coach wants to speak with you then you just do it. He's the boss. You can be good with each other but still there's distance between a coach and a player.
"I only spoke with him twice, that's when I wanted to leave to go to Dortmund in the beginning of the summer, and then the second meeting I just said, 'for me it's better to go, I want to play football'."
De Bruyne went on to join Man City in 2015 and has established himself as one of the best footballers in the world, scoring 34 goals and registering 57 assists in 135 games for the club.
