Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo refuses to reveal whether or not John Terry has been stripped of the club's captaincy.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has refused to confirm whether John Terry will remain the club's captain.

Terry decided yesterday not to appeal his four-match ban and £220,000 fine for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, as well as issuing an apology for the language that he used.

Di Matteo revealed that the former England international had been punished for his actions, but refused to publicise the extent of the disciplinary measures handed out.

"We do not discuss publicly the disciplinary matters we take against our players. They remain confidential. You will have to wait and see. They are internal matters, the action we take against our players, and we are not going to discuss it," said Di Matteo.

"Over the many years he has been here he has shown a lot of qualities.

"He has realised that on that day he fell below his standards and the clubs standards. For that he has received a ban and a fine and more action from the club. He is being punished for what he has said. We have all made mistakes in our life before."

Terry will miss tomorrow's game against Tottenham but could return for Chelsea's Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.
