Glenn Hoddle: 'Pep Guardiola has everything to prove'

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle claims that Pep Guardiola would have "everything to prove" if he chooses the Premier League as his next destination.

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Pep Guardiola would face the "biggest test" of his career should he opt to move to England next summer.

Guardiola last week confirmed that he will leave Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the end of the current season, with the Premier League thought to be his most likely destination and the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal all linked with the Spaniard.

The 44-year-old has already won five league titles, three domestic cups and two Champions League crowns with Barcelona and Bayern, but Hoddle believes that the more competitive nature of the Premier League means that he still has "everything to prove".

"He will have everything to prove in this country because it is different here. If you go to Bournemouth - it is not like Barcelona going to Getafe or a team down the bottom where they are scared stiff of you," Hoddle told PA.

"There are three teams in La Liga. The rest are technically good teams but they all play the same way. In this country you have to earn every single point you get. I would really like him to come and test himself whoever he goes to - whether it is Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea - this will be a real test for him and he knows that.

"Barcelona is a test because it is a massive club. It is so powerful in Spain and they are a very special team. Bayern Munich are the same. But this league - particularly like it is this year - is a test for any manager and it will be his biggest test."

Manchester City are currently regarded as the frontrunners for Guardiola, although Chelsea are also thought to see him as their first-choice successor to Jose Mourinho.
