Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany insists that Chelsea's five-point gap at the top of the table is no "big deal".

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has revealed that their five-point gap to Chelsea in the table is no "big deal".

The centre-half is not worried by the points difference and insists that his side have been in a similar position before.

City had the chance to close the gap on the league leaders to just two points last weekend but could only manage a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

"This is just such a usual situation for us. Five points behind in January or February – big deal," the 28-year-old said, according to The Mirror.

"We feel very comfortable being in that position. We've been in it many times before. We don't get over-excited, we don't get over-confident or too desperate.

"I can't remember ever leading. I would love to be 20 points clear, but it is what it is. But I think Chelsea now, they look solid, they look like they know what they're doing, they have a lot of experience and lot of great players - but we have that too."

City come up against Hull City at the Etihad stadium this weekend, while Chelsea will be looking to extend their lead at the top with a victory over Aston Villa.
