Roberto Martinez: 'No problem with Jose Mourinho over John Stones saga'

Roberto Martinez has no problem with Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho despite their war of words over the transfer saga involving Everton defender John Stones.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that he harbours no resentment toward Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho over the John Stones transfer saga in the summer.

The Portuguese publicly declared an interest in signing the highly-rated Toffees defender, prompting a backlash from Martinez, who claimed that Mourinho had breached Premier League rules by discussing his interest.

Asked by reporters if he will oblige the traditional pre-match handshake with his opposite number at Goodison Park on Saturday, the Spaniard said: "Of course I will, yes. All I am against the window being open once the season has started and clubs being able to put in bids when the competition is on.

"I am not against clubs being interested in our players. I understand [Mourinho's interest] 100%. But you cannot come out and comment about another player of another club because the Premier League rules do not allow you to do it.

"We're adult enough to understand why it happened – it can put a little bit more pressure. It's not accepted by the Premier League rules but it is something that happens. That's why I think it's important that when the transfer window is open and you get these kind of situations, it shouldn't affect the preparation for a game."

The champions are said to have had up to four bids rejected by Everton owner Bill Kenwright, with the largest thought to be in the region of £40m.
