Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that the arrival of winger Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina is not a "panic buy".
The Colombian international has arrived at Stamford Bridge for a fee in the region of £23m, but Mourinho has indicated that the 26-year-old had been identified as a potential signing before the departure of Andre Schurrle to Wolfsburg.
The 52-year-old told reporters: "I don't think it is the best thing for him that I speak of expectations. He needs his time as anyone does and he will have his time.
"He's not a panic buy, it's a reaction to Schurrle leaving and he is a player we have known of for a long time."
Cuadrado could make his Blues debut at Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.
