Brendan Rodgers: 'Title win would be more special for Steven Gerrard at Liverpool'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers feels that Steven Gerrard will enjoy winning the title more at the club than if he had left and won multiple honours elsewhere.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes that Steven Gerrard will get more enjoyment from winning the Premier League at the club than if he had moved elsewhere.

The 33-year-old had the chance to join Chelsea nine years ago when Jose Mourinho bid for his signature, but the move fell through due to the Reds rejecting a £32m offer.

Since then the Blues have won the Premier League title twice along with the Champions League, but Gerrard is now closing in on his first top-flight crown of his career.

Rodgers told reporters: "If Steven wins the Premier League, is that worth three or four times what it would be if he'd won it somewhere else? I think so. Steven knows that whatever he's achieved in football, he has been true to his own values and the values of his club.

"For him it's all about Liverpool. For others it will be: right let's get the trophies here, let's get the money there.

"If he wanted money or more trophies, Steven could have easily have walked out of here. But knowing the man after working with him for two seasons, he is more than that."

Liverpool face Chelsea in their Premier League showdown later today.
