Roman Abramovich sanctioned by EU

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has now officially been sanctioned by the European Union.

The 55-year-old has already had them imposed on him by the UK government, which has led to the football club being put up for sale, with the future of the Blues being up in the air.

However, now the EU has followed suit due to his close links with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, as he is now facing his assets being frozen and travel restrictions being placed on him.

The EU claimed that it was doing this due to Abramovich's, "long and close ties to Vladimir Putin", while also noting he has, "privileged access to the president, and has maintained very good relations with him".

The latest restrictions have put questions marks on Chelsea's upcoming Champions League tie with Lille, which is now at risk of being cancelled due to the sanctions.

Meanwhile, the Blues are still up for sale, with all bids having to be placed by Friday, which is the official deadline. body check tags ::
