Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has claimed that Daniel Sturridge "feels better" after being treated for viral meningitis.
The 22-year-old was taken to St Mary's London hospital over the weekend after suffering symptoms of the disease.
"Daniel has viral meningitis," Di Matteo said in a press conference. "I spoke to him and he feels better now. Hopefully he gets well as soon as possible. He felt unwell over the weekend and was taken to hospital afterwards.
"We have to monitor Sturridge on a daily basis but the fact he is feeling better is very positive. I am optimistic."
While no official confirmation has been made, it is likely that the former Manchester City forward will miss this summer's London Olympics after being named in Stuart Pearce's 18-man Team GB football squad.
