Chelsea captain John Terry hits back at Robbie Savage by claiming that he will not take criticism from someone who played at a "really bad level".

Chelsea captain John Terry has insisted that he does not listen to criticism from former footballer Robbie Savage because he played at a "really bad level" in his career.

The centre-back and his teammates have had a poor season so far having won just three of their 11 Premier League games.

Terry's individual performances have been targeted by ex-players and pundits, and has claimed that while he can handle criticism from Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand, he will not take notice of what Savage has to say.

The 41-year-old began his youth career at Manchester United, but had spells at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County at senior level.

"I've come under criticism, individually, from certain players and individuals - players I've looked up to and played alongside," Terry told reporters in a press conference.

"I've taken that on the chin - Rio, Carra, Neville, the very best I've come up against in the game. I take that on the chin. When others speak, maybe I don't take it on the chin.

"When players have not had a career [I have], played at a really bad level in their career - Robbie Savage being one. He's dug me out a couple of times. You take it as a footballer, as an individual. I'll take it from the Rios, Carraghers and Neville. All day long. From others? Nah."

The Blues will take on Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
