Three American-led groups reportedly head the race to buy Chelsea at some point in the future.
As a result of Thursday's government-imposed sanctions, owner Roman Abramovich is being prevented from selling the Premier League club at the same time that the revenue stream at the West London outfit have been halted.
While reports have indicated that Abramovich may be able to part ways with Chelsea on the government's terms, there is currently no guarantee that the Russian billionaire will go down that route.
Nevertheless, it has been claimed that club officials have moved to instigate discussions with the British government, aware that they face the likelihood of financial ruin should no amendments be made to the current licence.
According to The Telegraph, three American-led groups are waiting in the wings in the event that discussions and negotiations can take place in some form.
Abramovich initially demanded at least in excess of £3bn for Chelsea, but the oligarch now realistically stands no chance of recouping such a fee.
Other candidates, such as British property tycoon Nick Candy, are likely to continue to monitor the situation. body check tags ::
