West Ham United new boy Diego Poyet was also being chased by London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, a report suggests.
The 19-year-old was voted Charlton's Player of the Year last season, placing him on the wishlist of more than one Premier League club, according to The Express.
Despite interest from elsewhere, Poyet penned a four-year deal at Upton Park to become Sam Allardyce's fourth summer signing, following the acquisitions of Mauro Zarate, Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell.
Tottenham are now ready to launch a bid for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku with the Belgium international unwilling to spend another season on loan.
