Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has insisted that beating Newcastle United on Saturday was more important than the team's performance.
The Blues struggled to dominate at Stamford Bridge, but a 2-0 victory saw them open up a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Despite criticism for their lacklustre display against the Magpies, Zouma believes that he and his teammates can be happy with the three points.
"It was very hard, but we stayed confident in the first half and it was much easier in the second half because we were 1-0 up at half time," he told the club's official website.
"In the second half we played much better and we have to play like this every game. We want to be champions and if we play badly or well the most important thing is the result."
Chelsea continue their Premier League campaign this Saturday when they travel to Swansea City.
