Everton secured their first home win of the season, beating Chelsea 3-1 at Goodison Park in the Premier League this afternoon.

Steven Naismith came off the bench to score his first hat-trick for the club, scoring once with each foot after opening with a header.

Nemanja Matic gave Chelsea some hope before half time, but the champions were unable to get back on level terms before Naismith added his third.

Goal

Tim Howard: It was far from a busy afternoon for the Everton keeper, who faced just two shots on target, but he did claim the ball from a couple crosses to limit Chelsea's chances. There was not much he could have done to stop Matic's effort. (6/10)

Defence

John Stones: After being the subject of transfer interest from Chelsea over the summer, Stones showed Everton why they wanted to keep him so badly with a commanding performance at the back. (8/10)

Phil Jagielka: Like Stones, the Everton captain put in a strong display, regularly halting the charge of the Chelsea players to give Howard an easy day between the posts. (8/10)

Seamus Coleman: Coleman was given the freedom to get forward, and worked well with Ross Barkley on the right flank, providing the cross for Steven Naismith's opening goal. (8/10)

Brendan Galloway: As the least experienced member of the back four, Galloway was targeted by Chelsea, but he coped well, marking Diego Costa during set pieces and keeping the Spaniard quiet. (8/10)

Midfield

James McCarthy: McCarthy had moments at both ends of the pitch, helping out at the back while providing a couple of decent balls into the box. (7/10)

Muhamed Besic: Besic made one promising run into the box before pulling up with a hamstring injury and being subbed off just nine minutes into the match. (6/10)

Gareth Barry: Like McCarthy, Barry swapped from defending to attacking through the match, but did give away a couple of free kicks with some rash challenges. (6/10)

Ross Barkley: Barkley was a constant threat for Everton, providing countless crosses into the box for Lukaku and Naismith while also taking on a couple of shots himself. (8/10)

Attack

Arouna Kone: Arouna Kone was not at his best, getting into a few good positions but lacking a finishing touch, while losing the ball in midfield a couple of time. (5/10)

Romelu Lukaku: Lukaku did not get on the scoresheet against his own club, but forced a couple of saves from Begovic and helped create space for Naismith. (7/10)

Substitutes

Steven Naismith: Naismith played most of the match after replacing Besic just nine minutes in, scoring a perfect hat-trick to lead the home side to victory. (9/10)

Aaron Lennon: Making his second debut for the club, Lennon came on for the final 15 minutes, and had a hand in creating Naismith's third goal. (7/10)

Ramiro Funes Mori: The Argentina international also made his debut with a late appearance off the bench, and showed excellent pace getting forward as well as helping keep Chelsea out late on. (7/10)

Goal

Asmir Begovic: Despite letting in three goals, it was not a bad performance from Begovic, who was left exposed by his defenders too often. Pulled off a string of diving saves to keep Chelsea in the match in the first half. (7/10)

Defence

Branislav Ivanovic: Ivanovic was beaten several times by Naismith, while regularly leaving his defensive colleagues exposed to the counter-attacking hosts as he tried to get involved up front. (4/10)

Kurt Zouma: Zouma did not seem to click with central defensive colleague John Terry, but did stop some of Everton's attempts to burst into the Chelsea box. (5/10)

John Terry: John Terry returned from suspension, but made a couple of errors alongside Zouma, and could have given away a free kick inside the box when passing the ball back to Begovic. (5/10)

Cesar Azpilicueta: Everton found their way past Azpilicueta all too often, but the Spaniard did come close to scoring down the other end in the second half. (5/10)

Midfield

Cesc Fabregas: Fabregas battled hard to try to get the ball into the box towards the end of the first half when Chelsea had a dominant spell, but had little impact in the second half. (6/10)

Eden Hazard: The Belgian had a few half-chances with efforts from the edge of the box as Chelsea won a string of corners, but he rarely had clear-cut opportunities. (6/10)

John Obi Mikel: Mikel got the ball forward for Matic's goal in the first half, but otherwise made few contributions for the visitors. (5/10)

Nemanja Matic: Matic scored a stunning goal to give Chelsea some hope before the break, and posed a threat with a couple of long throw-ins. (7/10)

Pedro: The summer signing ran at the Everton box constantly before being replaced in the second half, but was unable to get past John Stones. (6/10)

Attack

Diego Costa: Costa was frustrated by a lack of service up front for Chelsea, and let his temper get the better of him as he hacked down Funes Mori late on, earning himself a yellow card. (4/10)

Substitutes

Radamel Falcao: Falcao came off the bench while Chelsea were only a goal down, attempting to find a late equaliser, making some good runs into the box but failing to force Howard into action. (5/10)

Willian: Willian looked the most likely creator of a Chelsea equaliser late on, curling in some dangerous-looking crosses. (7/10)

Kenedy: The Brazilian teenager got a run out late on as Chelsea desperately tried to rescue something from the match, but he had few touches before the full-time whistle. (4/10)
