Glen Johnson's 87th-minute solo effort stole all three points for Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
The England right-back stormed down the right before nutmegging Ashley Cole as he cut inside and keeping his cool to roll past Petr Cech.
Luis Suarez spurned chances to send a teammate through as the visitors began well, aided by Chelsea's lacklustre nature at the back and the opening goal in the 33rd minute was a result of a Blues error.
Cech fed John Obi Mikel, who was immediately pressured by Craig Bellamy, Luis Suarez and Charlie Adam, with the latter snatching the ball from the Nigerian.
Bellamy and Suarez exchanged quick passes before the Welshman fed Maxi Rodriguez all alone in the area and the Argentine slid past the helpless Cech.
After the disappointing first-half performance Andre Villas-Boas made an attacking change by bringing Daniel Sturridge on for Mikel and the Englishman levelled proceedings as Chelsea improved after the break.
Florent Malouda broke clear down down the left, dragging his shot well wide but straight into the path of Sturridge at the back post to tap home.
Dirk Kuyt dragged a chance wide as both sides pushed for the win but it was Johnson who won the game with his late effort.
Kenny Dalglish's side draw level with Chelsea as well as Arsenal and Tottenham on 22 points.
