A second-half goal from Antonio Rudiger earns Chelsea a 1-0 victory over Swansea City in their Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have remained in third position in the Premier League table with a 1-0 victory over Swansea City at Stamford Bridge.

The home side were frequently denied by Lukasz Fabianski, but Antonio Rudiger's second-half header proved enough for the Blues to extend their unbeaten league record to six games.

Swansea failed to register a single shot on target in West London and, as well as remaining in the bottom three, Paul Clement's side have now not scored a goal in four top-flight fixtures.

Chelsea needed nine minutes to create their first opportunity of the game, with Alvaro Morata drilling a decent effort from the edge of the box towards goal only for Fabianski to be equal to his shot.

Swansea had done well to establish themselves in the game and Clement was not shy in instructing his players to keep hold of possession, but as the half wore on Chelsea began to take charge on their home patch.

In the 19th minute, Pedro received the ball inside the penalty area before his close-range shot was well dealt with by Fabianski, who also kept out Morata's header from a free kick moments later.

Morata came close again shortly before the half-hour mark, but Fabianski came out on top in their duel once again as he tipped the Spaniard's goalbound effort over the crossbar.

Pedro also had another opening as the game headed towards the half-time whistle, only to flash a shot off target, but the main talking point of the opening 45 minutes came when Antonio Conte was sent to the stands after strongly disputing a call from the referee.

When the teams returned for the second half, Chelsea were soon back on the offensive and Pedro should have done much better from 10 yards, with the playmaker blazing over the bar.

However, it did not take long for the Blues to finally open the scoring thanks to Rudiger, who headed into the net from close range after Kante's shot had been diverted into his path.

Chelsea did not waste time in pushing for a second but the home side were struggling to create clear-cut chances as Clement contemplated alterations on the touchline.

Oliver McBurnie was introduced and joined Wilfried Bony in attack, but it was Chelsea who came close to a second with Willian seeing an effort palmed away by Fabianski.

As the game ticked closer towards full time, Swansea began to offer more of a threat but Thibaut Courtois continued to be under-worked in the Chelsea goal as the Blues eventually introduced Eden Hazard from the bench.

The Belgian playmaker could not help his side to a second goal, but the home team always remained in control and were able to see out the contest in relatively comfortable fashion to head into Saturday's clash with Newcastle United having amassed 16 points from their last half-a-dozen league fixtures.

Chelsea (3-4-2-1): Courtois; Rudiger, Christensen, Cahill; Zappacosta (Moses 75'), Kante, Fabregas, Alonso; Willian (Drinkwater 81'), Pedro (Hazard 81'); Morata

Swansea City (4-4-1-1): Fabianski; Naughton, Van Der Hoorn, Mawson, Olsson; Mesa (McBurnie (65'), Carroll, Ki, Sanches (Fer 46'); Ayew (Routledge (84'); Bony
