Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that Chelsea are in the market for a central defender, alerting suggestions that the Blues are closing in on a deal for Bolton Wanderers' Gary Cahill.
The former Porto boss has been open about his interest in the England international, who was reportedly close to joining Arsenal in the summer.
The former Premier League champions are in need of defensive cover following the impending departure of Alex and a recent injury to David Luiz.
"We could have David Luiz available to return on Boxing Day," said Villas-Boas. "But we are in the market for another centre-half and we have to respond quickly when the transfer window opens."
The Portuguese manager's comments came after his side's 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last night.
