Barcelona are hoping to tie down midfielder Gavi to a new contract in February, according to a report.
The 17-year-old's current deal at Camp Nou is due to expire in June 2023 and he is believed to have a €50m (£42m) release clause, which has alerted the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.
According to Sport, Barca are yet to hold talks with Gavi's representatives, but they are now planning to enter negotiations over a new long-term contract next month.
The report adds that the player's agent Ivan de la Pena and Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany had initially agreed in December to open talks in January; however, the Catalan giants are currently prioritising other signings before the winter window closes.
Gavi is regarded by head coach Xavi and the club's hierarchy as one of their brightest prospects for the future and they intend to build the team around him and the likes of fellow youngsters Ansu Fati and Pedri, who have already signed new contracts.
The Spain international has made 25 senior appearances for Barcelona across all competitions this season, scoring once and registering three assists. body check tags ::
