Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin has revealed that the club are awaiting confirmation from Chelsea that Kevin de Bruyne will be available to sign on loan in January.
The Belgium international, who spent last season with the Bundesliga outfit, is thought to be eager to secure a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge in a bid to boost his prospects of being named in Marc Wilmots's World Cup squad next summer.
Should manager Jose Mourinho be willing to part with the youngster, then Bremen will also face stiff competition in the form of Wolfsburg for the 21-year-old who recently expressed an interest in luring him to the Volkswagen Arena.
"His agent is aware of our interest in his services," Eichin told Kreiszeitung Syke.
"I will be getting to know if there is a chance to re-sign Kevin de Bruyne on loan for our club.
"If this is possible, we will have to wait and see if such a deal can be really worked out. Everyone at Werder Bremen knows all about the quality of Kevin de Bruyne."
De Bruyne scored 10 goals in 33 appearances for Bremen in the Bundesliga last season.
