Chelsea transfer news: Champions League trio 'eye' move for goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic

Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic - currently on loan at Strasbourg - is allegedly attracting interest from three clubs that competed in this season's Champions League.

Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is allegedly not short of interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite making 31 appearances in his first season at Stamford Bridge, the 25-year-old was allowed to leave the Blues on loan in August.

Strasbourg - also owned by BlueCo - were the beneficiaries and the Serbia international has since starred in Ligue 1 throughout 2024-25.

Just 31 goals have been conceded in his 27 outings, Petrovic also keeping 10 clean sheets, and it has thrown up the possibility of being reintegrated back into Enzo Maresca's squad for next season.

However, according to Football Insider, Chelsea could have opportunities to cash in on Petrovic when the market reopens in June.

Which clubs hold an interest in Petrovic?

The report claims that Aston Villa are among the clubs who are contemplating making an approach, despite having Emiliano Martinez as their number one.

With the Argentina international having made a number of errors of late, Unai Emery may want to add stronger competition to his goalkeeping department with veteran Robin Olsen the current deputy.

Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be monitoring the situation in the event that Chelsea are open to a sale.

In the case of Leverkusen, long-standing number one Lukas Hradecky is now 35 years of age and a successor will eventually have to be found for the Finland international.

As for Juventus, they recently conducted business with their Chelsea counterparts to sign Renato Veiga on loan, and may plausibly look to use that previous contact to their advantage.

Could Petrovic stay at Chelsea?

If a vote was held among the Chelsea fanbase, Petrovic would most likely be the most popular choice ahead of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen to be next season's number one.

However, with Maresca having immediately ousted Petrovic from the fold upon his arrival last summer, it is questionable whether that is realistic.

From a business perspective, Chelsea officials may be of the opinion that opportunities could arise to make a profit on the £14m deal that they conducted in 2023.

With complying with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules needing to take a certain level of priority, selling Petrovic would make sense. body check tags ::
